An Unplanned Pregnancy in My 30’s

When an unplanned pregnancy happens, most often people assume it’s a girl in her late teens or early 20’s. That’s not always the case. Women in their 30’s, whether married, in a relationship, or single, are finding themselves unexpectedly pregnant.

If this is you, we understand where you are coming from. You might already be a parent, or maybe you thought you’d never get pregnant due to certain circumstances. Maybe you decided you didn’t want that for your life.

You Aren’t Alone

A quick online search for other women in their 30’s dealing with an unplanned pregnancy shows one board after another filled with women in that age group sharing, talking and struggling to decide what to do. Some come right out and say they can’t deal with it, while others are looking at their options. Yet others talk about how there is never a good time to have an unplanned pregnancy and have decided on the path to parenting.

One woman said the more she thought about it, she realized that everything in life happens for a reason. Another woman said she chose the abortion route to save her marriage because her husband objected to the pregnancy.

These women and many more just like them—and you—have experienced that stomach-clenching moment when all of a sudden nothing makes sense. It’s ok to be scared, but don’t let fear drive your decisions.

Make a confidential appointment to come in and talk over your situation. Get answers to your questions about pregnancy, abortion, and other options. Let us help you build your confidence, equip you with the answers you need, and empower you so that you can make your decision with confidence. Above all, remember, you will need to be ok with your decision no matter what path you choose.

Pre-Abortion Screening

We don’t want you to pay for an abortion you may not need, and pre-abortion screening can help you avoid that. Come in for a free, laboratory-quality pregnancy test. They are more accurate than over-the-counter tests which give false results more often than women realize, for a variety of different reasons.

If the test comes back positive, we will offer you a limited ultrasound to determine the viability of the pregnancy, make sure it’s not ectopic (a dangerous condition requiring medical treatment), and to determine how far along your pregnancy is.

We also offer STD testing and referrals for treatment. This is an important test because STD’s, if untreated prior to an abortion, can result in pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can cause pain and long-term problems with reproductive health, including infertility.

Why Get a Pre-Abortion Screening?

If you’re thinking about abortion or sure it’s the choice you want to make, it is still important to get your pre-abortion screening. I know. You’re thinking, “It will just waste too much time! I can get the same thing done at an abortion clinic.” But is that true?

First of all, you cannot be sure your pregnancy is progressing. The only way to know for sure if it’s progressing is by ultrasound. If it is not, it’s true you may be able to get the same ultrasound at an abortion clinic, but it won’t be free! You can receive a free screening at Willowbrook Women’s Center, so you won’t be out a single dime.

Even if the pregnancy is developing, you want to make sure it is developing in the proper spot in your body! If it isn’t, a procedure different from an abortion will be required to remove the pregnancy. A free ultrasound can confirm the placement of the pregnancy.

In order to plan your next step, you need to know exactly how far along you are. This can help you know what takes place during the abortion procedure you qualify for and give you an approximate cost. A free ultrasound can give you this information. Information is knowledge, and knowledge is power!

One last thing. Many women believe they don’t need STD testing since they have been with the same partner for several years. Unfortunately, you may not be the only partner he’s had. And many STDs don’t have any symptoms so testing is the only way to know if you’ve been infected. If you have been infected, you need to be treated before you schedule an abortion. This will protect your future health! Our tests for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are also free.

Get the pre-abortion screening. You won’t regret it, and yes, it’s free.

How Does an Unexpected Pregnancy Impact My Future?

The first reaction when you read a positive result on a pregnancy test can be, well, a bit salty, especially if it’s unplanned. Through the shock and tears, you might be wondering how this unexpected pregnancy will impact your future.

You have options available, but which one is right for you, and your future? There is no one right, or wrong, answer. There is only the right one for you, and although right now everything may seem scary, that is only temporary.

Once you take a close look at your options, explore them from your unique point of view, and make your decision, you will find peace and a positive outlook again. Will it be hard? Perhaps, but life is hard from time to time, even without an unplanned pregnancy.

Once you know the path you are heading down, it is easier, no matter which way you decide upon. There is a saying that knowledge is power. Take that a step further and you will find that decision-making is powerful. It leads to acceptance of the path you have chosen and all that’s left to be done is deciding you want to do it in a positive way.

No matter which path you choose, you have a full life and future ahead of you. Face it with confidence and boldness.

Your Choices

There are three options when you are pregnant. You can you can choose to end your pregnancy through abortion, you can let the pregnancy continue and become a parent, or you could let the pregnancy continue through delivery and choose adoption.

At Willowbrook Women’s Center, we are here to give you unbiased information so you can make a confident decision on which one is best for you. Our caring, non-judgmental advocates will help you so that you get all the information you need to make the right decision for YOU.

Pre-Abortion Testing

Before you pay for a procedure you may not need, make an appointment at Willowbrook Women’s Center. We will give you a free, lab-quality pregnancy test to confirm the result of your home test.

If the test comes back positive, we will offer you a free ultrasound. This test will show if the pregnancy is viable, if the pregnancy is ectopic (a dangerous condition requiring medical attention), or if it is likely to end in miscarriage, as 15 to 25 percent of pregnancies do. If viable, it will also tell you how far along you are.

The last test we offer is one to detect STD’s. This is important because untreated STD’s present when an abortion is performed can result in pelvic inflammatory disease, something that can cause pain, lifelong problems with reproductive health, and infertility issues.
